Onvo L60 2026 Refresh: Bigger Battery, LiDAR & Family-Focused Upgrades! | Full Review (2026)

Onvo, the family-oriented sub-brand of Nio Inc., is set to unveil its revamped L60 SUV on May 29, marking a significant shift in its strategy. This move comes as the brand aims to boost sales and solidify its position in the Chinese market, where it has faced competition from Tesla's Model Y. The L60's refresh is centered around intelligent driving and cockpit upgrades, bringing it in line with the hardware deployed on the recently launched L80 and the refreshed L90. One of the most notable changes is the addition of a LiDAR-equipped variant, a reversal of the brand's previous vision-only strategy. This shift is particularly interesting, as it challenges the notion that roof-mounted LiDAR is standard safety equipment for electric vehicles. The L60's two-trim structure now includes a variant with a LiDAR sensor and Nio's in-house Shenji NX9031 autonomous-driving chip, and another with the chip in a pure-vision configuration without LiDAR. This strategy aligns with the brand's recent refresh cycle, which has seen the L90 and L80 adopt similar configurations. The L60's pre-sale launch on the opening day of the Shenzhen Auto Show signals a strategic move to capitalize on the event's exposure and attract buyers. However, the pricing remains a key question. Onvo has not yet disclosed pre-sale pricing, but the LiDAR variant is expected to carry an additional cost of around 15,000 yuan over the pure-vision trim. This cost increase is driven by sensor hardware and rising high-performance memory prices. If Onvo follows the same approach as with the L90, the entry price for the L60 could remain unchanged, holding near the current 206,900 yuan with the battery, or 149,900 yuan under Nio's Battery-as-a-Service scheme. The L60's refresh also includes a bigger 85 kWh battery, moving away from the original 60.6 kWh pack, and a range of cabin upgrades such as a rear entertainment screen, a dual-section electric roof sunshade, and a mini refrigerator. These additions push the L60 further toward the family-travel positioning that defines the Onvo brand. However, the brand's sales momentum has cooled in 2026, with deliveries down 2.55% year-on-year in the first four months. Onvo's CEO, William Li, has pointed to the sub-brand as the one that will eventually take the majority of the group's sales, targeting a 55% share of total volume. The L60's refresh, along with the recent launch of the L80 and ES9, is part of a packed launch calendar for Nio Inc. The company's CEO has identified the L80 and ES9 as central to driving near-term delivery growth. However, the L60's success will depend on its ability to balance the addition of LiDAR with maintaining competitive pricing and delivering on the brand's family-travel positioning.
